    Take a memorable ride on the Thailand–Burma Railway, also known as the Death Railway for the thousands of POWs and forced laborers who lost their lives building it during World War II. On this day trip from Bangkok, you’ll visit the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and the Jeath War Museum, and hear moving war stories from your guide. Then ride a long-tailed speedboat down the River Kwai where you’ll have a view of the famous bridge. Lunch and hotel transport by coach are included.

    Whether you’re a war buff or a railway enthusiast, there’s reason to see the bridge on the River Kwai and take a ride on the Thailand–Burma Railway, aka Death Railway. Both are poignant reminders of the WWII POWs and forced laborers who built the structures, many of whom lost their lives undertaking this Japanese wartime project. Start your full-day tour with pickup from selected hotels in Bangkok, then travel by comfortable coach to the town of Kanchanaburi, located 80 miles (130 km) west. You’ll journey through the Thai countryside where sugarcane, rice paddies and pineapple plantations fill significant portions of the rural landscape. You’ll visit graves of the Allied Forces on a tour of the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery before a look at historical photographs and paintings at the JEATH War Museum — prepare for an emotionally moving experience at both sites. Learn about the building of the infamous bridge that was to link a direct railway line from Bangkok to Rangoon in an effort to support the Japanese occupation of Burma (now Myanmar) in 1943. An exhilarating long-tailed speedboat ride will take you down the River Kwai to the bridge, where you have ample time to explore on your own. Then hop aboard the ‘Death Railway’ for a memorable — and scenic — ride. Your day’s itinerary includes a Thai restaurant lunch before you’re returned to your Bangkok hotel.
